I used the stain and scale inhibitor as described on the container. It instantly turned the pool water opaque. I rang your offices and spoke to two Chris's on 15th July who assured me this was entirely safe and advised that I should use Sparkle Water Clarifier which I did. This made no difference other than to produce an 'oil type slick'. I backwashed for 3 days but the water remained opaque. The pool is used for swimming lessons so, in the interest of Health and Safety, the pool had to be closed, completely drained down and refilled and re heated. The pool will not be ready to re - open until this weekend therefore we have lost 2 1/2 weeks of business and the pool teachers are severely out of pocket never mind the inconvenience this has caused to all the clients. There is no indication of the possibility of this happening on the container, however, when I googled it, it seems I am not the only one with this problem. I shall be seeking recompense.
Swimming Pool Chemicals response : We give free advice on pool operational matters when asked by our customers as an act of goodwill. We are reliant on the information supplied by our customers which is usually incomplete. Often we ask customers to send us a samples of the pool water which we professionally analyse. We are sorry that your pool went cloudy. This has not ever been reported back to us before. (Also I have been unable to find the Google reports of similar problems occurring) I can only assume that an enormous amount of scale must have been stripped off by the stain and scale remover. This must have formed a colloidal suspension of calcium carbonate which the filter was unable to filter out. It may well be worth checking the filter to ensure it is operating correctly. In retrospect we should have asked you to send a sample of the water which I think would have shown excessive calcium levels. We were glad to be able to speak to you and resolve things to your satisfaction and we're very pleased indeed you'll be remaining a customer.
