Above Ground Pools - Step 4: Control pH Levels

Back to above ground pool home

Although the pH of your water should not experience any major alterations it is still important to keep it within the recommended range. If the pH level rises above 7.8 it reduces the efficiency of the chlorine and if it goes below 7.2 the water becomes uncomfortable to bathe in.

If your pH level is either too high or too low then alter it using pH Reducer or pH Increaser respectively. To do this fill a plastic bucket with pool water and then add 45grams per 1,000 gallons of pool water of pH reducer or pH increaser into the bucket. Once it has dissolved distribute the solution around the pool with the filter operating and re-test after 24 hours.

The Alkalinity level is not very important on above ground pools but if you are experiencing low levels of alkalinity add a small amount of Alkalinity Builder. If your alkalinity level is too high then it can be reduced using the pH Reducer.
